Less than three months after its launch, the Einstein Probe telescope has discovered a burst of low-energy X-rays that could lead scientists to reconsider how gamma-ray bursts are emitted. The explosion in question lasted more than 17 minutes – the longest ever observed – and, strangely, only after six minutes did the gamma-ray burst appear.
