The INAF Brera Astronomical Observatory is organizing a series of monthly meetings for the year 2025 on the topic of violence and gender issues in the academic and non-academic fields, entitled: “When gender violence does not exist: language, law, discrimination, evaluation, inside and outside the academy”.

Abstract: why is there a large gender gap in the scientific community, especially in STEM disciplines? Why does the percentage of women scientists decrease as one moves up in tenure? One of the main causes of this phenomenon is the presence of biases (prejudices?) in the evaluation criteria commonly used to define scientific excellence and select high-quality research. Overcoming or at least mitigating these biases is not easy and requires a long work of awareness and education on inclusiveness. The CoARA experience aims to be a first step in this direction, in an international dimension not only European.
