Abstract: This meeting aims to shed light on the phenomenon of gender inequality in science and research, with a particular focus on academia, drawing on the findings of the international scientific literature and the author’s quantitative and qualitative research, much of which has been incorporated into her book “Doppio Standard” (Carocci, 2022). Starting from comparative and longitudinal data, it will focus on three questions concerning women and science (Why so few? Why so low? Why so slow?) and then delve into the explanatory factors of inequalities, distinguishing between micro (individual), meso (organizational), and macro (institutional) reasons.
