{"id":4641,"date":"2024-10-29T09:43:07","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T08:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brera.inaf.it\/?post_type=progetti_ricerca&#038;p=4641"},"modified":"2024-11-28T16:35:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T15:35:56","slug":"morfeo-for-elt","status":"publish","type":"progetti_ricerca","link":"https:\/\/brera.inaf.it\/en\/progetti_ricerca\/morfeo-for-elt\/","title":{"rendered":"MORFEO for ELT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"http:\/\/brera.inaf.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Progetti-OAB-800x800-morfeo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1005\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MORFEO for ELT<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M<\/strong>ulti-conjgate adaptive <strong>O<\/strong>ptics <strong>R<\/strong>elay <strong>F<\/strong>or <strong>E<\/strong>LT <strong>O<\/strong>bservations <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SHORT DESCRIPTION<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Morfeo<\/strong> (formerly known as MAORY) is a first-generation instrument for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), the 39-m optical-infrared telescope that the European Southern Observatory (ESO) has been building since 2017 in collaboration with the community of Member States. <strong>Morfeo<\/strong> will help compensate for the distortion of light caused by turbulence in the Earth&#8217;s atmosphere that makes astronomical images blurry. <strong>Morfeo<\/strong> will not perform scientific observations but will instead allow other instruments to perform observations with excellent image quality (primarily the <a href=\"https:\/\/elt.eso.org\/instrument\/MICADO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MICADO<\/a> instrument).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modern ground-based telescopes cannot achieve their full potential without adaptive optics, sophisticated systems that correct for the blurring effects of the Earth\u2019s turbulent atmosphere and allow us to obtain sharp images of astronomical objects near and far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Morfeo<\/strong> is one of the key adaptive optics systems on the ELT. During the first years of operation of the telescope, this instrument will work with near-infrared camera\u00a0MICADO, moreover <strong>Morfeo<\/strong> is designed to also feed light to a second instrument in the future.
