The INAF Brera Astronomical Observatory is organizing a series of monthly meetings for the year 2025 on the topic of violence and gender issues in the academic and non-academic fields entitled: \u201cWhen gender violence does not exist\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Title of the fifth conference<\/strong>: \u201cGender inequalities in science and research: numbers, reasons and mechanisms<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker<\/strong>: Researcher Camilla Gaiaschi \u2013 Salento University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Date and place<\/strong>: September 23, 2025 \u2013 11:00 am \u2013 At our headquarters in Merate – E. Bianchi 46.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract<\/strong>: This meeting aims to shed light on the phenomenon of gender inequality in science and research, with a particular focus on academia, drawing on the findings of the international scientific literature and the author’s quantitative and qualitative research, much of which has been incorporated into her book “Doppio Standard” (Carocci, 2022). Starting from comparative and longitudinal data, it will focus on three questions concerning women and science (Why so few? Why so low? Why so slow?) and then delve into the explanatory factors of inequalities, distinguishing between micro (individual), meso (organizational), and macro (institutional) reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
