This year, on May 17, the DEA (Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) group of the INAF \u2013 Brera Astronomical Observatory will once again join the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia<\/strong> (IDAHOBIT).
The International Day, established in 2004 by the IDAHOBIT Committee and recognized by the European Union, aims to combat all forms of discrimination and violence related to sexual orientation and gender identity by promoting a culture of respect, inclusion, and the protection of rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, thousands of initiatives are documented around the world. The International Day against Homosexuality and in Support of Same-Sex Rights is currently celebrated in 155 countries and territories, including 35 where consensual same-sex acts are still criminalized. The day has received official recognition from several states, international institutions, including the European Parliament, and countless local authorities. Most United Nations agencies also mark the day with specific events.

We embrace these words of President Sergio Mattarella<\/strong> in his statement issued on May 17, 2025:

It is a principle that must be part of everyday life, a shared heritage that must involve the active, conscious, and responsible participation of everyone<\/em>\u2026”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who we are<\/strong>
The DEA@OAB group (https:\/\/brera.inaf.it\/en\/dea-group-oab\/<\/a>) has been organizing conferences and events since November 2024 to promote a culture of equity, respect, accessibility, and listening within the Brera Astronomical Observatory. The group’s founding values \u200b\u200bare: respect, mutual listening, openness, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
